I thought I saw a question like this but I couldn't find it. With a humility on the battlefield I manifest a vesuvan shapeshifter. After that I turn it face up for it's casting cost. Am I able to copy something as it's turned face up? I would think so because even though humility removes all abilities, the effect from turning the card face up is a copy effect which is applied in layer 1, so I would think that would apply before the ability is removed.

No, you cannot choose to copy anything. Layers aren't relevant here, because no copy effect is ever actually created.

Thanks to Humility, Vesuvan Shapeshifter no longer has the replacement ability that would normally create a copy effect as it's turned face up. Since that replacement ability doesn't exist when the Shapeshifter is turned face-up, it never applies and therefore never creates a copy effect.
