TO staff to do deck-checks?

Simple question, could not find the answer with the search tool.

Is the TO staff allowed to do the deck checks?
The event in question is a PPTQ and the TO Staff also handles the score-keeping.

TO staff to do deck-checks?

At premiere events, non-certified judges are not recommended to conduct tournament operations where penalties can be evaluated or assessed to players. That is the role of certified judges to perform.

TO staff to do deck-checks?

Hello,

A follow-up question: is it “more OK” in case that the TO doing the checks is a judge candidate and is accompanied (shadowed) by a certified judge?

Thank you,

Milan

When you are training someone, certainly it is something you will have to do.

I think it's more about, and I'm sure Andy or someone else will corect me if I'm wrong, but we don't want to put TO's in a position where they have to decide whether they need to assess a penalty or want to keep their customer happy by not correcting a deck list.

At competitive REL, we do not want uncertified persons attempting to assess if a player should or should not be awarded a penalty.

However Jonathan is also correct to point out that when you reach competitive RELs the role of TO and role of Judge become harder to do simultaneously. It has been shown in our experience that attempting to do so gives a poorer player experience. It is however not the reason for my comment.
