self identified and fix for missing main board card

Scenario : You are judge at sealed format event.

A player reported you with a card, he/she told it is from his/her opponent, or left at next table. You could locate the card owner at beginning of next round. The player confirmed it is lost card from his/her main board. However the player already have replacement because the player knows the additional remedy of IPG 3.5 D/DL problem: “restore any missing cards if they (or identical replacements) can be located”.

The player got the replacement:
1) Use another copy of own side board.
2) Got the card from dropped friend's pool, or left over card pile of side events.
3) Bought that card from shop at venue.

Case 1 cause one card less in side board but I assume no penalty according to recent IPG update. How about case 2 & 3 , are there any penalty ? (Add a card outside registered pool ?)

If the player contacted you about the missing card and take action either case 2 or 3, will it change ?

I've no issue with 1, 2 or 3. As long as the contents of the presented deck and sideboard match the list, it doesn't really matter to me whether that card is physically the exact one that was opened, or a replacement. There's clearly no advantage.

Where I may have questions is when they swap in/out foils for non-foils, or alternate art versions, or different language versions.

But even then it's perfectly legal as long as the cards have the same english name as the ones on the decklist. I'm really waiting for anyone to play at a european or north american limited GP with full foil japanese cards just because he can…

While it may be legal, I heavily discourage it due to the amount of unnecessary confusion and judge calls it will create.

Usually all it takes is a, “Really??? Please… just don't…”

Also, what happens if the event uses “stamped” card pools? I'd discourage them from trying to solve the issue without involving a judge because it may result in worse problems down the line. Mainly for them. While in most scenarios I wouldn't apply a penalty, I would ask them to let a judge know as soon as they realize there is a problem, so that we can provide better service and avoid any future issues/misunderstandings.

Thanks, all. Three players lost their cards in round #1 in GP Chiba (only I know of) … so it could be very common case..
