Temporary Name Tag

At every GP there are some judges without a name tag.
This might be confusing, especially on bigger events - like MM2 Crazyness - where the staff don't know each other.
They use some ad hoc solution - like putting a token into pocket, and write his name at it - but this looks unprofessional.

So I'm starting a brainstorming - would anybody see a good solution to ensure that every judge's name is easy to notice, and looks good?

My proposition is to use some spare/empty name tag, then cover it by sticking plaster, or other tape that one can write on - and then write judge name on it (with big “printed” letters). The problem is to gather appropriate amount of spare name tag.

What do you think in this subject?

“spare badges” + adhesive printer paper - print out the name, attach to
name tag. These could be handled by the local RC. Cost would be to send
each RC a number of spares + one sheet per event.

Is printing on adhesive paper doable during GP?

With sufficient notice, (and as long as a request doesn't come in every five minutes for a new label) it's generally doable at a GP.

It'd actually be nice if there were blank badges with white backgrounds, (possibly in the GP kit) then you could use normal office supply labels to get decent name tags without it being obvious what was done.

One quirk: there would likely need to be some font standardization with something like this, just so that you don't have judges around in Comic Sans name tags.

Not that the official badges have a single font used :)

If there were white-background badges in the GP kits, we could just use dry-erase markers (I think this is a really good solution).

Side note: I actually have two badges for dual nationality, and after I modded the Arial one to match the Sans Culottes typeface of the other, my RC threatened to have a Comic Sans one made for me. ^_^

Unfortunately those smudge and handwriting is questionable. Puts people
often confuse dry erase with permanent.

Wet erase markers are a better plan here.

I have a name badge from my work that I'm using until I get an “official” name tag. It's brushed brass-ish, has my employer's logo on it and is generally classy. Plus, it provides a nice conversation starter for those who notice it. :)

Michael, not to be nitpicky, but wearing another company's logo at a Magic event might not be the best idea.

This is from the Judge Uniform Policy:

Do not wear your judge shirt except when judging a DCI event. Do not represent Wizards at another company's events (common respect) and similar is expected at WotC events.

Spare name tags (blank one) + label printer works great.

Just make sure you have white-on-black tape for your lable printer. :)
