My understanding is that be has open sources it. If you want to pick up the ball on the app I would believe you are good to go.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

Everything said so far in this thread is pretty much spot on.

The process of updating is kind of a mess right now, since in retrospect I didn't really know what I was doing when I started a few years ago, and I've had to add several various hacks to it since then.

Actually uploading the new versions of the app to both app stores is relatively trivial, but getting all the files updated is the time consuming part.

Everything related to the app is open sourced on Github. There's a “readme” specifically for updating that basically consists of a bunch of reminders for myself at https://github.com/numegil/MTG-Judge/blob/master/scripts/Readme.txt. As you can see, it's pretty terrible since a lot of stuff still needs to get done manually. I've actually considered rewriting all of the update scripts from scratch to make them as automated as possible.

So yeah, it would be awesome sauce if someone with the requisite code knowledge could either rewrite the update scripts, or figure out how the existing ones work. Once the updated data files are committed to the repository each new set release, I can pull the changes and upload it to Apple/Android.

As Mills mentioned, The MTG Guide app for iPhone is A+, it's what I've been using myself. As such, the Android version of MTGJudge is definitely a higher priority, though the data files are (almost) identical between the iPhone and Android versions. So if one gets updated, the other might as well too.

Feel free to contact me through here/email/Facebook/whatever if anyone has any questions :)

Thanks,
-Alexei

Hi guys, I've contacted Alexei about maintaining the Android version.

He's mentioned about pulling his copy off Github and working out a pull request for updates.
I did pull it off previously and looked at it.
I think I've deviated quite a bit by rewriting everything from scratch, as I decided to use an SQLite database for data storage instead, in vast contrast to the way Alexei processed his data.

I've only used the options that Alexei provided in his app as the basis for items required (eg. what should appear on the home screen like the Oracle, MTR, IPG, etc.).

In terms of updates and such, I've consolidated them into an SQLite database instead that's stored on the local phone memory, which is a vast difference from what Alexei has used for his data retrieval. It has capability for future updates, which is to pull the entire database and replace it from a designated website.

If there are any Android users who are willing to help me test it out, I'd be glad to share the APK first, as currently I'm the only person using it, and one phone model does not equal every other model available in the world in terms of compatibility. Also, I might miss out on certain things like other features that would be beneficial or erroneous data which others would be able to point out.

If anyone's able to help me out with knowledge of Android programming's best practices to further streamline the app, I'd be very glad too.

Just an update on the progress for the Android version.
We're nearing the end of closed beta; ironing out some bugs occurring from OS version differences.
Once it's good to go, I'll put it up as a public link for download in this thread for open beta testing, and would appreciate any form of app feedback/amendments/error reporting.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi everyone,

Apparently, I can't seem to see the “page 2” button, so I'm reposting, that I spoke with Alexei, and am starting to work on a branch update for a pull request on github for the iOS version. Would appreciate help, but I'll be doing it as I can.

I used to use MTGJudge. Now i use MTG Guide. Works great. Worth the $ for
the convenience. It's updated regularly with the new ipg/mtr/etc.

The app has not been updated for awhile now. I only use it for the draft timer and decklist counter.

MTG Guide is much better when it comes to the documents.

Mtg Judge also has an issue with the new iOS where it crashes when started. Only way to make it work is to put ur iOS device on airplane mode.
