Browbeat or other "punisher" card interactions with planeswalkers

This just came up over a lunch break game with the new Sorin vs. Tibalt duel decks. The Tibalt player cast Browbeat, the Sorin player had Sorin out & elected to take the damage. The Tibalt player should be allowed to re-direct the damage to Sorin, correct?

Wondering if this ruling makes sense from a “spirit of the law” sense? The Sorin player is the player making the decision to take the damage and thus “controlling” the source of the damage.

He would be allowed to redirect the damage to Sorin.

Even though the Sorin player chooses whether to take damage or to let the opponent draw, Browbeat is controlled by whomever cast it. The Tibalt player controls Browbeat; so when Browbeat would deal damage to the opponent, the Tibalt player can choose to deal that damage to a planeswalker that opponent controls instead.
