Sidebet? DQ or not in this situation?

Hello fellow judges! I had an intresting situation on the latest competetive event I was judging on. It was a two-days event. The situation accured day two on the lunch-break between the top 16 and top 8. I was eating lunch with the other judges and a friend. My friend told us that player A and player B ( both in top 8 ) had an sidebet of 70 euro on who was getting a higher rank in the tournament than the other. My friend did not realize that this is not okay and when we told him so he said “oh well i guess they are in trouble”. We decided to just ignore this during the tournament with the arguement “it is so outside the tournament that we will not do anything other than take a serious talk with them after the tournament”

What is your oppinion on situations like this?

Hi!

What were the reasons for you all to decide that “it is outside the tournament”? Could you elaborate a bit more on it, please?

At first glance this looks like a clear example of wagering, but there may be some aspects of this concrete case that are still missing…

In what way is this “outside” the event?

SO, the HJ decided that since they made a bet outside the tournament before it started, on which one who will have the highest rank after the tournament ended. Atleast this is what the HJ said. My question is what is your oppinion and how would you have done since i am not sure what i have done if i ws the HJ.

Also, this was decided after we, and the HJ had been talking to two more experienced L2s. But still, i think this is intresting and I am not experienced enough to make a ruling on this on my own

Wagering is something that - like rolling dice to determine a winner - must be strongly discouraged.

70EUR is significant. These players should be educated, and policy firmly enforced (yes, that means a DQ for wagering).
