The top card is revealed:
- Before Brainstorm resolves
- After the first card is drawn
- After the second card is drawn
- After the third card is drawn
- After both cards have been put back.
Usually, one verb corresponds to one atomic action. The game doesn't have a state in the middle of the action; it only has a before and an after. That's why you see the top card before putting the two cards back and after putting the two cards back; but there's no game moment where only one of them has been put back. So the card that ends up second from top is not revealed at all.
Card drawing has a special rule that makes drawing multiple cards multiple actions. There is no way to draw 2 cards, it's automatically converted into “draw a card, then draw a card.” The reason is that individual card draws need to be replaceable for the purposes of
Words of Wind and similar effects. If “draw 2 cards” was an atomic action, it would be very difficult to determine what happens when one or more card draws are replaced.
So with Brainstorm and Field of Dreams, each card draw is an atomic action, so each time a card is drawn, the next card is revealed.
