Ok, I think we had a misunderstanding of what “update life totals” means.

Well, I had a “crazy” idea on this situation and would like to share it here to see if that is acceptable (No, it's not - highly likely).

Can this be treated as a result of miscalculation from both players? Can we assume that Abigail did gain three life, but made a mistake when updating his life totals on paper, and so did Noddy. As a solution, ask them to correct the life gain on paper and play on.

Unless both players tell you they meant to add 3, but added 2 instead, I don't think there is any reason to rewrite history.

In addition, we still wouldn't apply a partial fix here, even if it were the result of simultaneous, matching math failures. (Although that is the sort of thing that players often correct on their own without ever calling a judge, which is generally fine.)
