Hey all I want people to chime in with this. What are your opinions?

I had purchased some of the sweet looking new Daretti sleeves and I noticed that with a little bit of fiddling with my deck I could see the face of the cards in the extremely reflective parts of the sleeve.

Currently I'm not allowing them for competitive events I am the HJ.

Thanks
Nick

Two thoughts - always check reflectiveness in the actual lighting that players will have, and remember that a player has to be very good with sleight-of-hand to get away with the deck manipulation necessary to really benefit from reflective sleeves.

Having said that, I also tend to discourage highly-reflective sleeves, so players won't be *tempted* to abuse them.

We have had a large amount of issues with any Ultra Pro product recently.

In our shop there we run at FNM and Regular REL so aside from asking players to improve the quality of the sleeves used, we have not had other issues.

This issue was raised with me immediately upon the sleeves becoming available. So far, it seems, as Scott noted above, the value for those trying to cheat is minimal and the necessary manipulations are such that if the player has that level of ability, the sleeves are not the primary problem. So, my position at Competitive has been to allow them pending more data that they are an issue, but noting for my players that other head judges may not feel as comfortable with them.

I feel like this may be an issue that many players dont even realize when they pick up the sleeves. As such in my comp events i would likely ask any player using them to swap to something less reflective but I doubt I would be looking to had out a penalty right away but i feel like banning them may be heavy handed
