While the costume idea actually sounds kind of sweet, it is definitely
something that needed to be decided and announced several weeks ago. Maybe
something to think about for Dragon's Maze though :)

Our pre-release is in a pub. I somehow think people might feel a bit silly dressing up in costume.

Our prerelease is [anywhere]. I somehow think most people might feel a bit silly dressing up in costume. ;)

However, I don't want to force my assumptions on those few people who would really enjoy it! But yeah, I agree with Justin that it would probably require a little more notice to get any real response.

One more point of clarification - it's not actually REL that determines whether or not players can chat during deck building; it's whether or not decklists are being used.
Originally posted by MTR 2.7:

Players in individual Limited tournaments using decklists must refrain from communicating with, or revealing hidden information to, any players or spectators until after they hand in their decklists.

Arguably, events that justify the use of decklists - those with significant prizes - should be run as Competitive, not Regular REL. (At least, that's my 2c worth.) But if you have a Regular REL Sealed Deck event where you're requiring deck lists, then don't let players talk during deck building.

Scott, how do you feel this line applies to those regions using checklists
to record cardpools, but not “decklists” per se?

The language in the MTR focuses on the use of decklists. Registering the card pool is not a decklist - so player communication is allowed during deck construction, for a Limited event that registers card pools but not decks.

Similarly, the language (in MTR 7.2) that allows what we've been calling “continuous construction” focuses on decklists; if no decklists are used, you kind of HAVE to allow continuous construction (how would you know?!). But if you require players to list their main deck, they need to return to that configuration at the beginning of each match.
