Why must a player drop rather than concede? This sounds like something with an interesting history, and I'm just curious =)
From the TR:

As an exception, players in the announced last round of the single-elimination portion of a tournament may agree to divide tournament prizes as they wish. In that case, one of the players at each table must agree to drop from the tournament. Players are then awarded prizes according to their resulting ranking. Such an agreement may never include a concession or an intentional draw.

Does that mean asking for a concession in the finals is functionally identical to asking for a win by drop under the PWP system? Or does the “winner” not actually get any PWPs for the win by drop?

If a player drops, then no game takes place, hence no rating change occurs.

That fulfills the following requirement as a concession or ID would cause a ratings change:

Recently another thread discussed whether using the phrase “you concede” rather than “you drop” would result in a DQ in the finals. I got contacted by a player who was.

To me it feels bad to DQ players who are trying to do something we allow but don't use a terminology that properly reflect what we do.

Would you DQ in this instance? If not, would you say the relic might need rephrasing?

I try very hard to avoid the chances of that happening by as the judge
asking if both players want to win/receive first place prize, if one
doesn't I offer them the opportunity to drop. This way the players
aren't thinking for them selves and everyone know that what happened
is 100% legit.

When things go wrong, I won't punish players for using the wrong words
unless it is obvious they also went against the spirit as well.

Indeed and I agree with you Gareth on the last point as well. As long as what they are doing is in the correct spirit (dividing prizes in the tournament) I won't DQ for them not understanding and expressing the correct procedure we do to handle this. I don't think how we handle a split in the finals falls under the the things we require players to have a good understanding of.

I'm just curious if policymakers agree that we shouldn't DQ in this instance or if I'm missing something?
